where aliveness collects

May this be the season you allow yourself to be grateful for the small things, even while you wait for the big things to fall into place. For being grateful doesn’t only have to seem like overlooking what needs to change. Instead, it can help you become more aware of what you want to keep, nurture, pay more attention to, and grow.

May you breathe deeply and trust that focusing in this way doesn’t mean you no longer care about big, important things. Instead, it is an opportunity to practice becoming more of what is good right here and what you would like to witness grow right where you are.

In noticing what is small and meaningful, let this be a way to practice becoming more aware of what’s happening right where you are. Let this be a space for recognizing what is working and what needs to change. Where to hold on, where to let go. What to set aside, what to grow.

At times, this can be hard to do in the larger areas of life, especially all at once. And at the same time, perhaps there is still room to practice with the small things, wherever you can, according to your capacity. Perhaps, even here, youa re allowed to say notice the ways sunlight is filtering through the trees, grass is gently swaying, or the windis blowing…whether literally or metaphorically….the movement happening around you, and also, the movement happening within you, too. The realization that even noticing something different or being able to name something about yourself that was harder to explore a year ago is something worth acknowledging and recognizing as meaningful.

Small moments with small things may not change everything but they can be reminders that perhaps, something is still moving. Beginnings can still take form. Aliveness can still be present. And gratitude can become a way of noticing what is still becoming, little by little, with time. – Morgan Harper Nichols
